The Los Angeles wildfires are causing pain and devastation across the nation. This includes the families and loved ones of the victims. Since January 7th the city has been burning down mile by mile because of uncontrollable wildfires and there is seemingly no end in sight. Despite wildfires being a common threat in this sunny and dry city it’s rare that evacuations are required. Therefore, what is going on right now is the epitome of unprecedented.
Because of this The Weeknd has decided to cancel his highly anticipated and exclusive Rose Bowl concert, originally scheduled to take place on January 25th, out of respect for those affected. He’s also decided to push back the release of his album. Originally slated to be released on January 24th, Hurry Up Tomorrow will now be release on January 31st.
Understandably fans are disappointed, especially those who were fortunate enough to snag tickets to the exclusive event. But this seems to be the best route to take. Especially as other celebrities and companies fall into step. Beyonce has postponed her surprise announcement that was originally scheduled for January 14th, indefinitely.
Even Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences CEO Bill Kramer announced that the Oscar nominations announcement will be pushed to January 19th, stating, “…So many of our members and industry colleagues live and work in the Los Angeles area, and we are thinking of you.”
It’s safe to say that things will be changing a lot due to this natural tragedy but it’s important for us to keep in mind what truly matters and to have empathy and compassion for what is happening. We must also keep in mind that this does not only affect Los Angeles. It affects the entire country as this city is the heart of so much ethnic, artistic, cinematic, and culinary culture and history.
Let us all take it one day at a time and keep the beautiful city of Los Angeles, its amazingly resilient citizens, and the brave dedicated first responders that are lending their helping hands, in our thoughts and prayers.
