Bette Midler, who portrayed Winifred Sanderson in both the 1993 original and the 2022 sequel to Hocus Pocus, revealed on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen that she has read a script for a third instalment.
Midler disclosed that a script for Hocus Pocus 3 has been sent to her and described it with enthusiasm. “Well, you know, they sent a script. And a lot of it was brilliant,” she said. She went on: “So I got very excited, and now we’re sort of like trying to figure out what it is and where it’s going to be and how much it’s going to cost and all those logistical things.”
The script’s existence gives renewed hope that the trio of Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy might return together, though Midler stops short of confirming their participation outright.
Midler also referenced the long wait between the first and second films of the franchise. She recalled “Billions of watches” for the sequel on Disney+ and said “Billions! I’d never heard that number before.” With the franchise now seeing rapid movement toward a third chapter, it signals a shift in how legacy properties are handled in the streaming era, especially when they engage massive audiences.
Whether that quip is all humour or a subtle nudge to the studio to keep momentum, it’s clear: the witches may well be brewing something new—and the cauldron is officially on the boil.
